If you ever worked with JetBrain's IntelliJ IDEA (https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/), you might have noticed two things:

  1. It might get slow quickly (keyword "Indexing")
  2. It might have annoying bells and sounds

The latter is especially annoying when you listen to music in parallel to building things in IntelliJ. Every time Gradle finishes a build, an annoying "Bling" disturbs the playing track.

Quick googling leads you to the tip to disable the bell via

set visualbell
set noerrorbells

in ~/.ideavimrc.

However, that might not do the trick, at least for me it didn't. By accident I noticed today that the Build Finish Notifier (https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/7716-build-finished-notifier) plugin was installed and enabled. THAT THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL! As far as I know this plugin is not installed by default, so this probably affects only very few people.

Open Preferences > Plugins > Build Finish Notifier and disable or remove the plugin.

Finally no more alerts!

Cheers,
René
