Hi there,

I am happy to see you here! But first, let me introduce myself. My name is René, I am a Software Engineer and, for years, I have been drawn back to startup-ish ideas that should lead to better information.

For a few months now I have been working on Folleon. While the site itself is not yet ready, I thought it would be fun to already blog about the adventure. Folleon is my next attempt to get to better information.

What’s Folleon?

Glad you asked! Folleon introduces the concept of money per upvote. The core concept divides the users of the site into three groups as follows:

Free accounts can write and add comment posts, follow other users and tags. Ads are displayed.

Paid accounts can also upvote and downvote posts and comments. Such a subscription costs $5 per month. Half of that is divided into all upvotes given and goes to the authors of the upvoted content. Vice versa, users with a paid account earn money per upvote. Of course, no ads are shown.

The rest of the world can read the content linked, published, or discussed on Folleon.

Sounds great, but will it work?

Well, that’s what I am here to find out. After several other ideas and plans, Folleon seems to be quite interesting—so say other people 😉

If you think about it, the dynamics of a system like Folleon might just be good enough to work.

It may fail, it may succeed, it’s fun regardless! Furthermore, such projects are always great for delving into new areas and finding out where to go next. One reason I love them.

But for now, that’s it. Follow this blog to learn more about how the development works, what the current problems are, how I overcome them (or not), and what generally is going on in Folleon HQ!
